The problem is, an RCM study usually needs about 4-5 people working a week for each system. In comparison, a straightforward approach with standards would only need one person spending about 1-2 hours on the same task.

You can use RCM –

• When creating, choosing, and putting in new systems in a plant
• When arranging Preventive Maintenance for complicated equipment and systems, we might not fully understand how they work
• When teaching people the basics of reliability, it’s helpful to explain things in detail using RCM

However, you can avoid it while outlining Preventive Maintenance for regular plant equipment like pumps, motors, couplings, cylinders, hydraulics, etc.
